An Old Soul, A Young Heart.
Our Story
We grew up in a world moving fast—trends changing overnight, wardrobes filling up and emptying even faster.
But somewhere between design studios, sketchbooks, and quiet conversations, we found ourselves slowing down. Listening. Looking closer.
What caught our attention wasn’t just fashion.
It was fabric that whispered stories.
As fashion students, we travelled across India—not chasing trends, but chasing craft. In Lucknow, we watched Chikankari being stitched with a patience that felt almost meditative. In Kashmir, embroidery carried centuries of emotion. In Punjab, Phulkari felt like a celebration sewn into cloth. Rajasthan shimmered with Gota Patti, while Bengal spoke softly through Kantha. Each place left us inspired. Each place left us inspired.
And each place left us heartbroken.
Why Mridtara
Mridtara is our way of saying that heritage doesn’t have to feel heavy.
That Indian wear doesn’t need an occasion.
That tradition can be soft, stylish, playful, and powerful—all at once.
We wanted to create clothing that feels effortless yet meaningful. Pieces you reach for on ordinary days, yet carry something extraordinary within them. Clothes that look good, feel good, and do good.
As two sisters who love fashion, styling, and comfort, choosing to build a brand rooted in Indian craftsmanship wasn’t the obvious choice. But it felt like the most honest one.
Because wearing Indian is not about looking back—it’s about belonging.
Our Vision
To make Indian ethnic wear aspirational, intuitive, and deeply personal for young women — where every outfit becomes a quiet celebration of culture, confidence, and individuality.
Our Mission
- To reinterpret Indian weaves and embroideries through modern silhouettes and youthful styling
- To make fabrics, crafts, and traditions understandable, desirable, and wearable for the new generation
- To honour artisans by creating fashion that is ethical, sustainable, and rooted in respect
- To build a brand that educates as much as it inspires—through storytelling, styling, and conscious choices
What We Stand For
Mridtara is for the girl who:
- Loves comfort but craves character
- Styles a kurta with sneakers and confidence
- Wants fashion with a story, not just a label
- Believes being modern and being Indian can coexist beautifully
- We don’t just sell clothes.
- We share why a fabric matters, how a weave lives, and how Indian wear can become a part of everyday life—without feeling forced or formal.
What We Believe
“Tradition, but make it yours.”
- Mridtara is a gentle reminder that culture isn’t meant to be preserved behind glass—it’s meant to be worn, loved, and lived in.
- Every piece is a dialogue between past and present.
- Every stitch carries intention.
- Every design is an invitation to slow down and choose better.
- This is Indian wear— Soft, Thoughtful, and Styled For Now.
About the Founders
Kalpita Shankhdhar
Co-founder, Mridtara
My journey has always lived between logic and imagination. I studied Computer Engineering at Dwarkadas Jivanlal Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai — a world of code, structure, and precision. But somewhere along the way, I realised my heart was quietly drawn toward colours, textures, stories, and the poetry of visuals. That pull led me to Pearl Academy, Mumbai, where I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Fashion Styling.
Today, I work as a creative director for photoshoots — building entire visual worlds from a single idea. I love shaping narratives through clothing, styling, light, mood, and movement. From selecting garments and accessories to guiding hair, makeup, and overall aesthetics, I enjoy bringing concepts to life in a way that feels cohesive, intentional, and emotionally resonant.
Alongside this, I’m deeply passionate about personal styling — helping people understand colour, proportion, and what truly feels like them. Capsule wardrobes, wardrobe edits, and occasion dressing are less about rules for me and more about clarity. When you know who you are, getting dressed becomes intuitive rather than overwhelming.
On 14th February 2026, my sister and I brought our shared dream to life through Mridtara — a brand rooted in heritage, empathy, and the belief that fashion can be both beautiful and meaningful.
For me, fashion isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about coming home to yourself — and dressing in a way that feels honest, comfortable, and quietly powerful.
My path into fashion didn’t begin in a design studio — it began in boardrooms, balance sheets, and business classrooms. I completed my Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a specialisation in Finance from NMIMS, Mumbai, and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Fashion Design at Pearl Academy. Numbers taught me how things work; fashion taught me why they matter.
Clothing has always felt instinctive to me — not just something to wear, but something to notice, decode, and feel. I’ve always been fascinated by how a silhouette can change posture, how fabric can shift mood, and how the right piece can quietly transform confidence without announcing itself.
Building our own brand was never a sudden idea — it was a slow, persistent dream that refused to fade. My finance background helps me think about sustainability, structure, and long-term vision, while design allows me to explore texture, form, and emotion. Together, they help me create pieces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful in real life.

I gravitate toward silhouettes that feel fluid, comfortable, and quietly sophisticated. My work often blends Indian and global influences — not as a contrast, but as a conversation. I design for women who want to feel put-together without feeling overdressed, expressive without being loud, and confident without trying too hard.
Co-founding Mridtara with my sister on 14th February 2026 feels less like starting a business and more like building something deeply personal — a space where heritage, practicality, and individuality can coexist effortlessly.
To me, style isn’t about perfection.
It’s about ease, authenticity, and the quiet assurance that you feel like yoursel
